The Central Crime Branch officials recently cracked down on a distance learning centre in Tilak Nagar that was offering fake graduation and post-graduation certificates and marks cards.
The CCB received reliable information that the centre was offering these fake certificates and marks cards to gullible students within 30 days. Based on the tip off, a team of CCB officials raided the centre and arrested a 25 year old woman, who was running the centre. The accused would charge the students anywhere between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000, make them write exams at the centre and issue certificates and marks cards within a month, he said.
Let us take a moment to absorb the above news piece and think about the number of people with fake degrees who got away and are working now in private or public sector. We need to ask ourselves a fairly simple question, when and who will verify their credentials before they become a potential threat to our companies?
Analysis and Recommendations.
The Indian education sector is highly unorganised and chaotic. A considerable number of educational establishments keep mushrooming up in every nook and corner of the country. And there are always silent murmurs about their longevity and potential because of their perceived inadequate resources. The market feels that most of these institutions lack the ability to produce highly skilled labour. This is a key concern and a challenge that India faces today. Most of these institutions are unable to entice the majority of students who are unable to pursue a degree at their dream college. To keep up with their running costs and balance the books, these institutions start offering online and distance learning (ODL) degrees through agents or study centres. However, they are unable to meet the criteria set up by UGC to get these ODL degrees recognised. Some students, unbeknownst to them about the registration of these courses end up joining while others in order to advance their careers use these kind of services to get a degree. When the lid is blown off of these degree mills, government bans these educational establishments resulting in a setback to those students who are pursuing an education from their campuses or ODL degrees, reducing them to a category that we can call ‘unable to hire’.
AuthBridge came up with a solution to this problem with self-verification. It is an innovative and technology driven solution that enables candidates to verify their educational credentials, to ascertain whether the institution they received their education from is genuine or not.
So rather than sit back and wait for some government agency to sort this mess up, “shouldn’t you get your credentials verified today? So what are you waiting for then?”
